Use camera features on your Chromebook

You can use the camera on your Chromebook to take photos or videos, edit and print photos, and scan documents.

Take a photo or video or scan a document with your Chromebook

  1. In the corner of your screen, select Launcher .
  2. Open Camera .
  3. At the bottom, choose an option:
    • Select Photo and then Take photo .
    • Select Video and then Start recording .
    • Select Scan and then Document or QR code and then Scan .

Once photo/video/scan is completed

 1. The captured file will automatically download to your Chromebook's My Files folder > Camera or Downloads
 2. Once you find the file you may then upload to your Google Drive or to another location of your choice.
       Tip: Photos are saved as JPG files, Videos are saved as MP4 files, and Scans are saved as PDF files.

Change how photos or videos are captured

  • To change your settings:
  • Select Settings . Change the camera's resolution or aspect ratio (default is full resolution and an aspect ratio of 4:3)
  • To flip your photo from left to right: Select Mirroring .
  • To use gridlines to straighten photos: Select Grid  and choose 3x3, 4x4, or golden ratio.
  • To switch between cameras: At the left, select Switch camera .
    • Tip: You can only switch cameras if you plug in an external camera.
  • To take photos with a timer: Select Timer  and choose 3 seconds or 10 seconds.
  • To take a photo while you record a video: While you record a video, select Take video snapshot .
  • To pause a recording: You can pause a recording, and continue recording on the same video later.
    • Important: When you pause a video recording, your Chromebook will save the video unless you delete it.
